The long version
Who keeps her?
Five mechanisms. Most salons are subject to three of them at once, and the fee is rarely the expensive part.
01
The introduction fee
A marketplace charges you for sending someone new. That is a fair trade the first time — they had the audience and you did not. The question is what happens on visit four, when she is rebooking a stylist she now knows by name, through an app that still counts her as theirs.
02
The ranking you do not control
Search for a treatment in your town and the first results are usually marketplaces, not salons. Your profile inside one of them competes with every other salon in the same list, sorted by rules you cannot see and do not set.
03
The record
Her contact details, her colour formula, her cancellation history, the prompt that nudges her to rebook. When those live in a platform, leaving means starting again — which is the real reason owners stay long after the fees stop making sense.
04
The discount trap
Deal platforms bring volume on terms that select for people shopping on price. They rebook at a fraction of the rate of a client who found you because she wanted you specifically, and the margin on the first visit was never there to begin with.
05
Paying to be found by your own name
Bidding on your own salon's name so your listing appears above a competitor's advert is the clearest version of the problem. The intent was already yours. You are buying it back.
The other side
None of this means leaving your booking app.
Plenty of salons should keep the calendar they have. Staff know it, clients know it, and ripping it out mid-season is a bad trade for a theory.
What changes is where the next client comes from, and whose list she lands on. If the people who find you this year arrive through your own content, on your own domain, into a list you can export — the marketplace becomes one channel among several instead of the landlord.
That is the only thing BeautyWave is for.
